I am in the middle of selling a home right now, so I know there is a lot to know and understand as you move through the process. However, that job has been made much easier by these new real estate apps.
Zillow
If you want to use only one real estate application, pick between Zillow, Trulia, RedFin, and Realtor.com. My favorite real estate app is Zillow, but each of these apps has similar features. Find the one you like best, and stick with that for most of your general searching.
I use these apps to search for nearby recent sales, properties currently on the market, and see how my home’s price per square foot compares to others in the area. However, don’t take just one apps’ opinion on price. It’s best to try see how multiple apps compare.
Knowing what else is going on nearby is the most important information to have when selling a house. If you price too high, you might never get any sales. If you price it too low, you can miss out on money you deserve.
Zillow’s mobile app is available for iPhone, iPad, Android phones, Android tablets, Windows 8, and Kindle Fire.
MagicPlan
Want to create a floor plan for your house without paying an arm and a leg to do it? MagicPlan takes care of the heavy lifting for you.
To create a floor plan, open up the app and walk around the house with your phone taking pictures. The app will automatically map out each room based on the images and produce a quality floor plan for you. You can add the plan to your MLS listing as a picture, or just have it on hand for tours.

MagicPlan is available for iOS and Android.
Houzz
Want to do some upgrades to raise your house’s value before selling? Houzz is an interior design app that can help you see what your house could really look like if you put in a little extra before putting it on the market.
Houzz brings great ideas and the hottest trends to your fingertips in just a few clicks. You can see modern kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, or any other part of the house to get ideas on the best paint colors, upgrades, or even staging ideas.
Houzz is available on the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Hammerpoint
If you do want to make some valuable upgrades before listing, the kitchen and the bathroom are probably the best two places to make a great return on investment. Want to know how much the upgrade will cost?
Hammerpoint is a project estimator that can help you plan out the costs of a project in just a few minutes. Thousands of real estate investors use Hammerpoint to plan out fix and flips and other real estate projects, and you can have the same tools at your disposal.
With this real estate application, you can view detailed, professional estimates before you make a decision or sign a contract. Once you enter your email, you will get accurate estimates for your city and your project, including an emailed PDF estimate.
Hammerpoint is available for iOS.
HomeSnap
Want to see what everyone else sees when they look at your house? Want to walk down the block and check out information on your neighbor’s houses? HomeSnap makes it a snap.
Just grab your phone and take a photo of any house, townhouse, or condo and the information will start to show up on your phone instantly.
The app will show you interior photos, estimated values, bedrooms, bathrooms, school ratings, taxes, lot boundaries, and price ranges for almost any property in the United States.
An informed seller is a powerful seller, and this puts lots of information at your fingertips.
